Child Care Teacher

The Family Conservancy is a full community partner, providing a comfortable environment where participants and neighborhood residents help develop and provide programs that enhance parenting skills, family functioning, and the development onto healthy and actualized adults. 

Summary of Position

Position requires assisting the Bilingual Program Assistant, Bilingual Nurse Educator, or Parent Education Coordinator in the day to day planning and coordination of childcare.  The teacher is also responsible for providing care to groups of children varying in ages from newborn to pre-adolescence, and for interacting and communicating with the children and parents in a positive manner.  (3-15 hours per week)

Essential Job Results

Under the direction of the Bilingual Program Assistant, Bilingual Nurse Educator, or Parent Education Coordinator, assists with planning and coordination of childcare by aiding in the development of weekly child care curricula.

Assists The Family Conservancy staff in their consumer service delivery by caring for the safety and well being of consumer’s children during individual and/or group sessions.

Creates nurturing environment by interacting and communicating with children through positive guidance and role modeling.

Maintains a safe, clean and pleasant environment for children in our care.

Enhances child development by demonstrating age-appropriate and safe activities while interacting with the children.

Complies with agency child abuse and neglect reporting guidelines by promptly reporting suspected abuse to the appropriate state agencies and notifying Supervisor.


Effectively utilize agency technology to accomplish tasks. (Microsoft Office Suite; Google Mail, Calendar & Drive; program specific software; printers/scanners/fax/phone).

Carries out The Family Conservancy’s Mission: Helping children and families achieve a lifetime of success.

Supports The Family Conservancy’s Strategic Plan and ensures accountability through successful implementation of assigned objectives where applicable. 

As part of our Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) process, attends assigned meetings and contributes in a meaningful way.

Maintains confidentiality of all agency information, consumer nonpublic personal information (NPI) and personal health information (PHI), as well as records directly or indirectly identifying any person currently or formerly receiving services from The Family Conservancy.

Maintains professional standards and technical knowledge in infant and early childhood mental health and disability eductions and research through annual attendance at educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, informs staff and colleagues of the results of these activities.

Attends diversity training yearly.  Application of knowledge will demonstrate awareness of the wide spectrum of socioeconomic, ethnic, racial and personal lifestyles/cultures found within the service populations.  Employees are expected to apply knowledge gained from diversity training and to act in a sensitive, nondiscriminatory, professional manner.  

Accepts, uses supervision, direction, consultation to maximize available resources in the completion of work duties.

Additional responsibilities will be assigned as needed to maintain and improve effective functioning of the department and to advance the mission of the organization.

All job responsibilities will be carried out under the direction of agency policies and procedures.

Required Education & Experience

Child Development Associate (CDA) certification or equivalent required; may be substituted with 3 year previous child care experience.  

Required Competencies & Abilities

Ability to develop and maintain positive relationship with parents.

Ability to develop rapport with consumers, community partners and agency staff from a variety of ethnic, cultural, geographic and economic backgrounds.

Travel throughout all parts of the facility and community as needed. 

Maintain successful clearance on Criminal, Sex Offender, Medical, and Missouri and Kansas Child Abuse/Neglect Background Screenings.

As a child care provider, must maintain good physical health verified by physician and must be free from tuberculosis. 

Required Language Skills

Possess effective communication skills, must be able to present information to groups and individuals through verbal and written formats.

Speak, read, write and understand English and Spanish to communicate with community members, clients, co-workers and others.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Previous experience working with children in a childcare setting preferred.

Bilingual fluency in written and oral English/Spanish preferred.

Reporting Relationships and Principal Contacts

Reports to the Bilingual Financial Security Program Manager.  Principal contacts include Bilingual Program Assistant, Bilingual Nurse Educator, and Parent Education Coordinator, other agency staff, consumers, and children of consumers.

Travel throughout the facility, metropolitan area and counties within the service delivery area is required. • Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of Criminal, Kansas & Missouri Child/Elder Abuse and Neglect, and Sex Offender background investigations. • Occasional weekend and/or evening work may be necessary  • Ability to lift children, educational toys and equipment which may up to 30 pounds required.   • As an employee working as a child care provider, good physical health must be verified by physician and must submit proof of being free from tuberculosis.
